Douglas Scalapino is a Research Professor of Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Dr. Scalapino received his undergraduate degree from Yale in 1955 and his Ph.D. from Stanford in 1961.  He then worked as a research associate before joining the physics faculty at the University of Pennsylvania in 1964.  He has been a member of the Physics Department at UCSB since 1968 and was one of the co-founders of the Institute for Theoretical Physics which was established at UCSB in 1979.  His primary scientific interests are superconductivity and magnetism, focusing on the high Tc cuprates and the recently discovered Fe-pnictides.
