Scholar Frans Pretorius receives physics award from the Simons Foundation
On July 24, 2012, the Simons Foundation announced that CIFAR Scholar Frans Pretorius (Princeton University) received the Simons Investigators award in physics. The five-year award will help support Dr. Pretorius’ research on the theory of general relativity and the use of equations to create simulations that allow scientists to better understand the nature of black hole collisions and the gravitational waves that emit from them.

The prize was awarded to other outstanding physicists, as well as mathematicians and computer scientists, to support and enable them to “undertake long-term study of fundamental questions.”

The Simons Foundation is a private foundation based in New York City, who’s mission it is to advance the frontiers of research in mathematics and the basic sciences.
