Researchers seek how to make long-lasting batteries last even longer
Thursday, October 27, 2011
A team of researchers, including CIFAR’s Jeff Dahn, are experimenting with long-lasting Lithium-ion batteries, trying to understand how to make them more efficient and last longer. Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable and can store about twice as much energy compared traditional batteries. They can be used in electric cars, grid energy storage and implantable devices like pacemakers. Jeff Dahn and his team have also built the world’s only high precision charger and system for testing Lithium-ion batteries. By being able to precisely measure battery efficiency and experiment with Lithium-ion batteries, the team is advancing Lithium-ion battery technology and opening up new opportunities for its use in our lives. The team's work is highlighted in a recent article by Katie McDonald in Dalhousie University's Dal News. Read more
