Scientists discover how to improve the transmission of information with photons
Friday, August 26, 2011
A group of scientists have found a way to improve the transmission of information with photons by forcing them to act like electrons. We depend on photons travelling on fiber optic cables when we surf the internet or watch television. But miniaturizing this transmission to the size of a computer chip is a challenge because the signal degrades. The method proposed by the research team, which includes Eugene Demler, an Associate in CIFAR’s Quantum Materials program, lays the foundation for one day creating efficient photon circuits.Read more
