Ruixing Liang, a materials scientist, is widely regarded as one of the world’s best crystal growers in high-temperature oxide superconductors.

He has collaborated for many years with Doug Bonn and Walter Hardy, fellow members of CIFAR’s Quantum Materials program. This trio’s synthesis of high-quality crystals of yttrium barium copper oxide (YBCO) has been, and continues to be, the vital basis for many of the experiments carried out by other members of the program – and by other materials scientists around the world.
