Psychologist Eldar Shafir illuminates insights from his new book, Scarcity: Why Having Too Little Means So Much, about how our ability to make healthy choices is limited by lack of money, time and resources — and what we can do to overcome those limits and shape our own lives.

The University of Alberta’s Festival of Ideas invites a community of performers, writers, visual artists, public intellectuals and religious and spiritual leaders to present a series of events that stimulate learning, discussion and discovery. Through this festival, the U of A reaches out to the public to engage in sharing ideas, thoughts and perspectives on topics of national and international interest. The intent is to forge interconnections between science and the arts, and between the University of Alberta and the broader community.
