Fair Society Healthy Lives: equity from the start

by CIFAR
Feb 6 / 14
Evidence shows that disadvantage starts in childhood and accumulates throughout life. The early years are vitally important for future life chances and health.

The approach taken by Sir Michael and colleague Ruth Bell is that important scientific evidence on social influences on child development should be brought to the attention of policy makers. Much can be done to improve equity from the start of life if a coherent policy approach is followed that takes into account the social determinants. A key element of this approach is to create the conditions for every child to have a good start in life.

A presentation by Sir Michael Marmot (University College London) at the From Cell to Society symposium on Feb. 6, 2014.
