The structures and functions of societies which support human health and development

by CIFAR
Nov 24 / 14
Through a large, interdisciplinary body of work, we have built an understanding that the biological processes which underlie health and human developmental outcomes are determined or modified by a set of interconnected environments in which people are embedded - from the most proximal, like families and neighbourhoods, to the most distal, like nations and global institutions.

In particular, broad societal policies seem to be a necessary means for enabling this social structure as a whole to produce the conditions which nurture and make equitable human well-being.

A presentation by CIFAR Global Scholar Alumna Arjumand Siddiqi (University of Toronto) at the From Cell to Society symposium Feb. 6, 2014.
