Mario Leclerc Materials Scientist
Mario Leclerc was awarded a PhD in Chemistry (under the supervision of R. E. Prud’homme) from Université Laval, Quebec City, Canada, in 1987. After a short stay at INRS-Énergie et Matériaux (with L. H. Dao) near Montreal, he joined the Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany, as a postdoctoral fellow in the research group of G. Wegner.
In 1989 he accepted a position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Université de Montréal. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1994 and to full Professor in 1998. That same year he moved to Université Laval to join the Centre de Recherche en Sciences et Ingénierie des Macromolécules (CERSIM). He is currently the recipient of a Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Polymer Science. He is author or coauthor of more than 250 scientific publications and 10 book chapters, and has 10 patents.
His current research activities include the development of novel polythiophenes, polyfluorenes, polycarbazoles, and poly(thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione)s, as well the development of a new polymerization method called “Direct Heteroarylation” for application in the areas of nanoelectronics, electrooptics, photonics, and genomics.
